Every child deserves a birthday: Futurewhiz visits Stichting Jarige Job
Lisa Potma
For many children, a birthday is a day to look forward to for weeks. Bringing treats to school, unwrapping presents, or being the centre of attention for a moment. Unfortunately, this isn’t a given for every child. That’s why 26 colleagues of Squla and StudyGo visited Stichting Jarige Job in Rotterdam, to help make birthdays possible for every child.
What does Stichting Jarige Job do?
In the Netherlands, hundreds of thousands of children grow up in families with limited financial means. For these children, celebrating a birthday is sometimes simply not possible. Stichting Jarige Job makes sure these children can still enjoy a special birthday. They put together birthday boxes filled with presents, bunting, balloons and treats to share in class. This way, every child can proudly say, “It’s my birthday”, just like everyone else.
Wrapping together to make an impact
Last week, we visited the Van Nelle Factory with 26 colleagues from Squla and StudyGo to help Jarige Job pack the boxes. After an introduction and some instructions, it was time to roll up our sleeves: folding boxes, wrapping presents, adding decorations and treats, sticking on address labels and sending them off! Even Q and the Jarige Job mascot came along to lend a hand.
While we worked, there was plenty of laughter, singing and chatting (and motivation to pack even more boxes), but there was also time to reflect on what this really means. A box filled with presents and decorations can make an enormous difference to how a child feels on their special day. In total, we filled 820 birthday boxes!
Alongside our volunteering work, we donated 350 Squla pencil cases to be included in the boxes. Pencil cases that children can use at school, while doing homework or when studying.
Why this matters to Futurewhiz
At Futurewhiz, we believe that equal opportunities start with inclusion. Children learn best when they feel seen, supported and being able to participate fully. By supporting initiatives like Stichting Jarige Job, we aim to contribute to a society where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow and celebrate meaningful moments.
